Research In Motion (RIM) today announced the latest BlackBerry smartphone: the Bold 9900. The new Bold device is noteworthy for a variety of reasons, including the fact that it is the first BlackBerry Bold device with a touch screen; it's the thinnest BlackBerry to date; it's the first BlackBerry to run RIM's brand new BlackBerry 7 mobile OS; and it supports Near Field Communications (NFC) technology.

NFC is a short-range wireless technology that will be used in the future for a variety of purposes including for mobile payments and other mobile data transactions. For more details on NFC, read RIM's recent blog post on the subject.

And check out the video below for a first-look at how NFC works on the new BlackBerry Bold 9900, captured today at RIM's annual BlackBerry World Conference in Orlando.
